Canon PowerShot S90

Canon PowerShot S90The Canon PowerShot S-series has returned with a bang. Now the S90 is available. It has impressive features, excellent image quality, and user experience. Plus, there is also Dual Anti-Noise System with an f/2.0 wide angle lens, a 3.0 inch, PureColor II LCD display, and an intuitive new lens Control Ring.

There is high sensitivity 10.0 Megapixel image sensor, and there is Canon’s enhanced DIGIC 4 image processor. You would be able to capture full resolution pictures, even if you are photographing in tricky lighting conditions, because the Dual Anti-Noise System takes maximum advantage of the light that is available, and reduces the image noise substantially. This camera is great for low-light portrait and also for landscape photography; you would be able to shoot high quality resolution images even at ISO 3200. DIGIC 4 also gives you an enhanced version of i-Contrast – which is Canon’s Intelligent Contrast Correction technology, this gives you a wider dynamic range to reduce the high light blowout, while at the same time retaining the low-light detail.

So what’s the advantage of the f/2.0 wide angle lens? Well, it helps photographers take maximum advantage of the Dual Anti Noise System. The f/2.0 wide angle lens allows much more light into the camera as an f/2.8 lens (in fact, twice as much as usual), and this allows you to use faster shutter speeds with the intention of reducing the amount of blur, or even achieving a shallower depth of field.

The wonderful S90 also has Canon’s optical Image Stabilizer (IS) technology, this uses a lens-shift system to minimize the camera shake and also the image blur – thus as a photographer you have a 4-stop advantage over those cameras that are less capable. The Canon PowerShot S90 also gives you a 3.0 inch LCD display, this features Canon’s PureColor II LCD technology – which would essentially allow you to frame and review images easily, due to an exceptionally wide viewing angle, 461k dot resolution, and the color rendition is absolutely great!

The Canon PowerShot S90 gives you sophisticated performance, as well as sensationally easy use. There is a huge range of powerful manual and automatic controls, which gives you a lot of creative freedom as a photographer. For instance, there is the intuitive lens Control Ring – this allows you to adjust the settings of different functions by twisting the selector at the base of the lens barrel to the left, or the right. In fact, the Control Ring can be used as a quasi-manual zoom, which offers a closer view of subjects in 28mm, 35 mm, 50 mm, 85 mm, and 105 mm steps.

There are other settings that you can assign – like ISO (in 1/3 stop increments), aperture, shutter, focus and exposure compensation – this gives you a very satisfyingly tactile experience as a photographer. The Control Ring enhances the user interaction with the camera – it offers fast, accurate, scrolling through menu and images. If you are on the new Nostalgic Mode, the Control Ring can also be used to give an aged effect to the shot, right from a subtle faded look to full graining black and white.

The Canon PowerShot S90 gives you smarter scene detection as well – you can choose from different Scene Modes, and choose the best settings for a particular situation, this option is ideal for adding creative effects, or when shooting in difficult lighting. There is a new Low Light mode, which can help you capture reduced resolution 2.5 Megapixel images in dim light, at ISO speeds of up to ISO 1200 and at a fast 2.4 frames per second.

There are other creative modes like AE, Program AE, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, Manual and Custom Modes. The menu navigation system is new and improved, thus it’s much easier for you to choose and use different camera settings. There is also a Hints and Tips feature on most of the frames and settings.
