The event wasn’t all about Sharp’s giant LCD, as a 103” touchscreen plasma from Panasonic was also there.

It is quite evident that these tellys have not been made for the general consumer market, and they would be used in commercial environment like airports and supermarkets.

PSCo informed that these LCD screens are being used in Japan in a cinema hall and it’s true that the screen is big enough to be used for the cinema.

During the past few years, various LCD TV makers have been trying to match or even exceed plasma as consumers’ first choice for the big-screen. However, many people at the event were of the view that mega-screen TVs may be the things to consider in the end.

According a Sharp’s spokesman, it is possible that the current 108-inches may serve as the biggest possible size for LCD for quite some time and it’s not about technological limitations, but for consumer demands.

“There are some footballers, who are looking for such a giant TVs that can adjust nicely in their big mansions,” he added.

There is a clear cut firestorm in the new breed of small, but so-called netbooks, but the question rises how many of them have been sold by Asus.

Market researcher IDC says that data for Europe, Africa and the Middle East show that more than two million netbooks has been sold in those regions during the third quarter of this year.

While in the total computer markets there is only 28 million sales in that period with a healthy seven percent share of netbooks and that is indeed quite impressive for a category that didn’t have existence 18 months back.

It’s not surprising at all that Ausu and Acer have a lion share of 80 percent of those mini laptop sales. It seems that HP, Samsung and others are also getting ready for the big fight in the coming months.

According to IDC, the laptop manufacturers may see a sharp rise in sales (up to four million) in the last quarter of this year. The important thing is whether any room will there for full-sized laptops in the coming days.

Sharp and sharpness are synonym, not only in words but also in actions. Sharp’s sharpness is getting further pointed with every passing day and this 5-megapixel CMOS sensor is just a manifestation of that pointedness. This 5-megapixel CMOS sensor with 9.5-x9.5-x 6.6-millimeters is being considered the smallest in the industry. This thin size will make it easier to slip sensor in already overcrowded insides of the upcoming cell phones. Samples have been slated to vessel out at the end of this month around $96 and its commercial production will be started after a month.

It is interesting to watch how it competes to the present higher-resolution cellphone cameras like the LG’s Viewty.

No doubt a tiny sensor with high pixel is somewhat creditable but the question rises about the quality pics as it must not be like a disposable camera.

About Sharp Corporation
