According to a report from IMRG, nearly 5 people will use online sources for their Christmas day shopping.

The report suggests that nearly £100m to be spent this year for online Christmas day shopping, while people spent around £84m for the same day previous year.

Some well known High Street stores like Marks & Spencer have started their online sales.

Marks & Spencer has launched its Christmas Day online sale in which over 50% saving is being offered to most of its products.

PricewaterhouseCoopers study suggests that almost 82% retailers will offer promotional goods or sales for the eve.

This Christmas day shopping trend has been criticized by Bishop Stephen Lowe who called that trend quite sad and an indicator for society’s wrong priorities.

On the other hand, Debnhams offers the biggest sale, as it announces to cut 70 percent price cut at its all stores. The sale will start at 0700GMT on Dec. 26.

Tesco also made similar statement for the biggest sale ever that will be started on Dec. 26.

Things are not quite different for online shops, and just like high street, there are fewer customers willing to spend money.

According to the internet measuring firm comScore, it is happening first time that online shopping is on decline since it started net measuring in 2001.

In November, US online shoppers spent nearly $8.2bn that was 4 percent down if compared with the previous year’s stats.

The firm predicted that there would be a flat growth for the coming Christmas season and also warned that further decline was also possible.

Gian Fulgoni, firm’s chairman, told that November was quite disappointing from sales point of view and low consumer confidence and tight incomes were the basic reason for that decline.

During the last year, online spending were seen with a 19 percent growth in the Christmas shopping season   while during the first ten months of 2008, online spending grew only 9%.

However, many people are not agree with this depressing forecast and many say that the traffic is increasing on online shopping websites with every passing day.

Many believe that online shopping will soon replace high street as the main shopping place, especially in UK and many other European countries.
