PlayStation Network is Sony’s promising multiplayer gaming and digital download service and now Sony is looking to offer music downloads on it. PSP will directly come into competition with different multiuse players including the iPhone.

Many believe that PSP can effectively play videos, music and games, but it’s not fully utilizing its potential yet.  With its array on nice games and bigger screen, the PSP can compete with devices like the iPod.

Earlier Sony was found to have a walled-garden approach towards the content and to watch videos on the device, the company requires physical media support and its customers need to purchase Discs, mini DVDs and other such stuff that was only limited to PSPs.

During the last few months, the gaming sector seemed to be flooded with rumors including that Sony was considering releasing a totally changed PSP. There were some reports which showed that there will be a larger screen as well as slide out controls and it wouldn’t play UMDs any longer.

According to Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter, “it is quite sensible to believe why Sony is trying to get more and more content for their device.”

“Sony is looking to offer it, but at present a Sony PSP game can’t be downloaded to an iPod Touch, as the OS do not allow this,” he adds.

Sony’s first digital music player was Remember the Music Clip and in it the company seemed to ignore the MP3 preference that was a much desired option for a large number of consumers.

The company beat the analysts’ predictions by posting record profit and revenue during its first financial quarter that was mainly due more-than-expected sales of iPod and Mac.

Will it last? It is, indeed, quite difficult to say as only some can predict about the economy’s new turns during 2009. But it’s a fact that Apple boosted it financial standing at the time that is being considered as the worst shopping season during holidays.

It impressed investors that the company could do well even in the worst economic conditions. After the results, Apple shares saw 9% rise in after hours trading.

Apple reported that their new notebooks got nice response from customers and saw a 33% increase in sales for the same period last year. But in the US, their Mac could grow only 2% and overall desktop sales dropped to 25%.

But the 16% international growth made the real difference in getting these sound results. It is being expected that new addition in an aged iMac design would help to boost the sales of the company during this year.

Joswiak told in a recent interview with T3 that the recent passed quarter was iPod’s biggest non-holiday quarter ever.

“So, iPod proved quite impressive and a big part of its success was the launch of the September products. No doubt, we surprised a lot of people with the success of the iPod touch,”

According to Joswiak, games are quite essential to the iPhone and iPod touch success. He says, “Games have been the biggest category of all in the apps store, as there were more than 1500 games with a great affinity between the iPod touch customer and these games.”

Joswiak opines: “iPod gaming can’t be categorized just in ‘casual’ games and these games have really surprised a lot of people and the reason is they are not just causal games. You will find there real 3D games and may surprise to note that we are a little over 100 days into it.”

“The devices like Nintendo DS and Sony PSP will prove more than the past of gaming. The iPod is easier to carry and has the touch display and accelerometer that make game play a real nice experience. It is also the electronic distribution of the apps.”

Regarding future of gaming on Apple’s devices, Josiwak says: “You will find everything on the store from the casual games to the 3D-oreinted games, action games and everything that will make gaming totally changed and far more exciting and joyful experience than ever. Our developers are doing the nice job and working on original content ideas and we are hopeful that they will blow everyone away.”

“The iPod touch will always in your pocket and you wouldn’t need to carry some other consoles,” he added.

In an interview with the Telegraph, Wozniak explained about his fears saying that the iPod had run its course and now it’s time for timepieces.

“Transistor radios and Walkmans were quite popular in the past and then the time came when new inventions began to replace them. Similarly, many other devices live a short or long life and then die out”

“So, it’s not only the iPod that is getting the death-knell treatment. You would also find the same sort of death-knell treatments for many other devices in the whole computer industry particularly in these credit-crunching days,” Wozniak added.

When it was asked what Wozniak thought about the future of Apple products, he said: “Nobody, not even Steve Jobs can tell what the future holds for the company .However, he hinted that Steve Jobs had said that company would be investing in the in the watch called ‘iWatch’.

Though Wozniak doesn’t provide details, the common idea is that Apple will try to revitalize the watch market in a quite interesting prospect.
