India had been claiming that it is working on a $10 revolutionary laptop that will be a landmark in educational computing. The specifications provided by India were:

The device will support 2GB RAM
Wi-Fi and expandable hardware
Two watts power requirement

The said price was $10 – $30, which is ten times cheaper than the PCs available today in the market. It was specially developed in addition to ‘MIT-developed nonprofit One Laptop Per Child program’.

Indian education ministry had also finalized their deal with publishers: Macmillan, Tata McGraw Hill, Prentice-Hall and Vikas Publishing to provide digital textbooks and content on the $10 laptops. It was said to help poor students who can’t afford to buy paper or any type of informative printed material.

Displayed in a small size of just a 10 x 5- inch wide slab, it scarcely looked like a laptop which India had been loudly pronouncing. It is a shame to call a device like that a ‘laptop’.

It is also said to be a device that ‘could be’ an important part in laptop manufacturing. This argument has been seriously condemned by Taiwanese component manufacturers.

For a device like this, it can be said that even $10 is a high price. We suggest that India should rename the device instead of calling it a laptop.

The trackpad freezes after almost 50 clicks because of some unknown reasons and it starts working again after another 10 failed clicks.

If that fault appears as hardware related, it can be a big problem for the company that may lead to a messy recall and make many without a shiny MacBook. However, Apple claims that the problem will be fixed with a simple software update.

Steve Jobs told a customer via email: “Software will be available soon to fix the problem soon.” This make people think that the problem is Software related.

This email leads to further speculation as Steve Jobs doesn’t like to type email responses with more than three or four words.

It has also been told that the humble MacBook is undergoing the sametrackpad problem and will also be settled with the coming software update.

In an interview with Laptop Mag, Asus’ CEO Jerry Shen urges that Eee range is not going to creep up above the 10 inch range, however, he confirmed that a touch-screen netbook will be available in the market in mid 2009 with the price range that might expand downwards or up.

“During the next year, some more exciting products will be available with the price range from $250 to $700.” It sparks hopes that the £150 price barrier in the UK will be beaten and it will create the same stir as the original 701 did.

“A new model will be announced in Q1 and Q2 of 2009.The models are quite cool and exciting with stylish design.”

“We have done a lot of hard work to integrate five sense innovation and we want make it certain that innovation has a long battery life and low temperatures.

“We want fast boot up times, a very long battery life, low temperatures and quiet performance for our users.”
Netbooks have already proved quite successful in the UK and there are hopes that an ultra cheap newEee book will be even more successful.

The ‘Brick’ (as rumors are) is a top-end notebook computer that has been constructed with a single block of aluminum and it will address those concerns that many users had regarding Apple’s svelte Air notebook launched earlier this year.

Another rumor circulating these days is that a MacBook is available at just $800.

Though the price is low and idea is exciting, it looks somewhat uncompetitive given the quantity and sometimes quality of Intel Atom-powered netbooks available out there.

According to Asus claims, the machine weighs even less than a kg and specs are better than Apple’s MacBook Air.

Under the shiny chassis, it has an Intel Centrino 2 processor, an nVIDIA 9200M graphics card, 3-in-1 card reader,
