Size And Weight

Netbooks are relatively smaller in size with a display screen measuring between 7 to 12 inches whereas notebooks have a screen size of 12 to 17 inches. The keyboard of a netbook is also 80% to 90% smaller in size than a notebook’s key board. These are energy efficient small computers, lighter in weight comparing to a notebook; only 2 to 3 pounds.

Capable of high loaded tasks and running multiple applications is what notebooks can do whereas, neither netbooks are capable of multi tasking nor can they handle heavy applications. Notebooks are able to perform straining technical jobs, though these tasks consume more battery. Notebooks like 17-inch MacBook Pro claim 8hrs, EliteBook 6930p from Hp is claimed to offer an amazing 24hrs battery life. The notebooks which are coming with less battery time, say 2 hours, can be replaced with extended batteries, increasing the time, which is a sure win over the netbooks.

There are no CD/DVD drives in a netbook; you cannot play a CD/DVD on it. Though, movies and music can be enjoyed through a hard drive. All the notebooks provide these facilities.

A netbook can run Windows XP Home and Linux easily, while to run Vista it needs more power. It has been recently announced by Microsoft that it will be coming up with Windows7 for netbooks. Though personalized versions of Linux, Mac OS or Windows XP Professional can be used to get maximum out of the netbook. Notebooks have no problem with any version of Windows.

Both notebooks and netbooks are portable computers. While looking at the details of specs, it is not difficult to evaluate which is the efficient one.

This innovative idea from Asus is still in its early concept stage. It has not been announced yet when do the manufacturers plan to introduce it in the market.  It is a Community Designed PC, possessing two touch screen panels, made as a flipbook.

It is created to be used as a laptop, an e-book reader and a multimedia center.

The flipbook can be used as a laptop when flipped in a notebook position. One among the two screens can be used as a display, while the other one can transform into an on-screen keyboard and a touch-pad. If user requires more space, the virtual keyboard may be stretched across both screens.

When used as an e-book reader, it is to be held like an opened book, both screens showing the pages, exactly like a hard cover book. Mere gestures of the user flip pages, making it none less than a real book reading experience!

Also, the device can be used a multimedia hub, where both the screens can be combined and joined together to enjoy wider and better display. Thus, the new Dual Touch screen Flipbook PC by Asus provides its users with a wide range of functionality.

Though, the new technical gadget lacks an option of connecting to a keyboard, its other qualities over shadow this discrepancy.

This time the company has come up with its two new high-end laptops: The Studio XPS 1340 and XPS 1640.

In the studio 1340, an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.26GHz P8400 processor has been housed. For some other specs you would find a 4GB DDR3 storage, a 320GB hard drive with 7200RPM, GeForce 9400M graphics from Nvidia, Windows Vista Premium and a 13.3-inch screen.

It will hit the shelves with the price tag of $1,199.

The price of the Studio 1640 is the same, but it features a low-cost ATI RADEON M86XT graphics chip and a large 16’’ LCD screen.

Look-wise both these laptops feel quite similar with their jet-black volcanic glass styling and imitative-leather trimmings.

The N10 was a compact small netbook and this time the Taiwanese company has brought forth a big and specific laptop.

The style is quite similar in all this range in which shiny black and brown plastic have been used that gives it a straightforward and attractive look.

The N80VC has a 14.1-inch display and it weighs just 2.6kg that makes it quite easy to handle for daily use.

It has a 1280×800 pix screen resolution that makes it quite easier to fit more than a few windows onscreen. You may find its sleek finish highly reflective in the sunlight, but it’s not a big issue for many.

Many of us wouldn’t find its keyboard quite impressive or to be more precise it is somewhat disappointing.  You find typing quite a bad experience when working on its large enough keys. However, its touchpad is quite impressive and offers a good response with a friction-free surface.

It houses an Intel Core 2 Duo processor that has been supported by 3072MB of memory. It makes N80 quite powerful to run things like Vista Home Premium with much ease. When it comes to battery life, it is average and runs around three hrs. You can store a lot of stuff in its 320GB hard disk.

It offers quite impressive connectivity and provides five USB ports to plug in your different peripherals. It also has HDMI and VGA interfaces that enable it to connect external display.

Apart from its keyboard, the Asus N80VC is, undoubtedly, an impressive and well specified machine.

Under nice colors and slim looks, it houses Intel Centrino 2 processors from 1.2GHz to 1.4GHz range, 2GB to 4GB RAM and a 160GB to 256GB hard drive.

It will set back the US customers between $2000 with entry-level specs including DVD burner and $4350 for a full-flat Blu-ray SSD version. It will hit the shelves during next month.
