The Japanese PC Watch Impress has reported that a multi-core Central Processing Unit (CPU) is being developed by Sony, Japan for its  PlayStation 4.This breakthrough will be very welcome by the key games programmers. So far they could not completely master the PS3’s Cell architecture. Many including Sony are looking for alternatives to present systems.

Reportedly Sony was considering Intel’s Larrabee and the improved version of Synergistic Processor Unit. Still they will prefer their newly designed multi-core CPU.

PS4, Xbox 720, Wii HD

The other major users, Nintendo and Microsoft are also pondering for new CPU Technology to meet current market needs of users.

PC Watch Impress states that the usual lead time required to produce / develop new consoles is around two years. This means the enthusiasts and prospective users may have to wait to see the breakthrough till 2012 / 2013 for the PS4, Xbox 720, Wii HD systems.

Sony and Nintendo usually upgrade their PSP and DS range annually and Japanese gamers are anxiously looking towards PSPgo and DSi XL.

This new upgrade is replete with some boasting features, but its new Photo Gallery (A 100MB downloadable application) is being considered its main feature. This new application offers some nice tools to organize and view images in a nice way.

It will allow you to sort digital photos in many different ways, as you can sort these photos by colors number of included people in photos, ages as well as their facial expression like smiles, weeping and other.

It will also allow you to combine different sorts to have a smaller range of these various images like Kids with Similes shot in June 08 etc. It doesn’t seem to affect the playlist and existing slideshow features.

PlayStation Store guest access is another nice addition with this upgrade, this feature will allow you to browse all that stuff that you can buy or can’t buy. Similarly, it also offers support for DivX video playback that serves in a nice way to relive funny moments of home videos.

According to the Internet rumor mills, the next console battle is expected during 2011-2012 as it’s a time when industry analyst Colin Sebastian and Crytek’s CEO Cevat Yerli are expecting a possible Xbox 720 and PS4.

To know about the capabilities of a PS4, it is essential to know what this current PS3 has and what not. It seems that Sony will certainly need to closely assimilate the software development and hardware components for the PS4.

We may see some obvious technology upgrades like 802.11n chipset instead of 802.11b/g if the PS4 is just a restoration of the PS3. Similarly, we should expect a massive hard disk, an increase in the onboard memory, and a new graphics processor.

We may also see a replacement for the PS3’s NVIDIA-built RSX graphics processor? There are rumors as well that Microsoft may use Intel’s Larrabee chip in the coming Xbox to fix a real-time physics and AI.

We can consider a strong argument to drop an optical drive from the PS4 as the PS3 was somewhat involved in helping Blu-ray beat off HD DVD. We know well that game demos, full-length movies, TV shows and video trailers of gigabytes-worth are being downloaded by the console owners. In PS4, a mammoth hard disk would help to pipe the game straight to the console on the day of release and there would be no longer install load times.

What consumers really want from a PS4? Well, the consumers are expecting to have a machine that can play the best games and give them new tastes of gaming experience as they had from PS2. The PS4 can go one of two ways: the best all-capable box that provides integrated playTV, larger hard disk and Blu-ray and the other way is to present a pure gaming machine with mass market appeal.

As the PlayStation’s official blog posts ‘Apparently’, Sony’s 2.41 Software update is out for the Playstation3 and soon running on the network updates and yeah you must take a deep breath and hope for the best while installing that the system wouldn’t hang like it acted for the some 2.40 fortune-stricken.

“PS3 software update v2.40 was released during the previous week but it had to make temporarily offline because of limited users the XMB wouldn’t display after the installation of the update. The problem wasn’t fixed and now v2.41 firmware will be released after a short while”, the blog stated.

“For any inconvenience, we seek pardon to the play station community,” it further adds.
