During February this year, RIM’s co-CEO Jim Balsillie announced that if customers desired, the company would bring out a touch-screen.

In the past, Balsillie has rejected the possibilities that the iPhone could become a serious competitor for the BlackBerry. Launching a touch-screen Blackberry would put RIM in a direct competition with Apple’s well-known iPhone.

On Thursday, RIM‘s shares closed C$ 140.99 which is C$ 1.60 higher in Toronto Stock Exchange. Similarly, on the NASDAQ, they closed at $140.71 with a gain of $2.15.

Will this new BlackBerry be a success or Apple’s coming iPhone rules the world? Only time will tell.
