Microsoft said on Monday that its Mediaroom software is being used by a Chinese TV provider to offer Internet Protocol television over a traditional cable network.

On Monday, Microsoft told that a Chinese TV source to use its new Mediaroom software to provide IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) on regular cable network.
This new deal with Guangzhou Digital Media Groups is Microsoft’s first Internet Protocol TV deal in China and similarly, its Mediaroom software will be used cable network first time.

“We have always been trying to make it go with various kinds of operators and now soon will notice the fruit of this toilsome labor,” says Ben Huang.

Different telecommunications companies have been using this software for getting into TV business and providing IPTV.

This new deal between Microsoft and Guangzhou Digital has been announced at CES. Mediaroom software has features as allow users not only to record into the coming events, but also watch those programs that have already been shown.

According to Huang, Guangzhou Digital as well as SingTel of Singapore will be able to use this feature during next few months.

Microsoft has been pouring hefty sums in its TV business for quite some time, but it’s now when this business is turning into a real serious business.

“We got the first million in several years, but now we would take only six months to have $2.5m.”
