Nintendo bought SRD Studios
Nintendo announced the acquisition of Systems Research & Development Co. The deal is expected to close on April 1, 2022. The amount of the purchase was not disclosed.
The independent studio has about 140 employees. The company has been a partner of Nintendo for 40 years, working exclusively on games for the Japanese publisher. Its office is located near the headquarters of Nintendo in Kyoto.
SRD was founded in 1979 and was involved in the development of the original Donkey Kong and helped create almost every significant Nintendo franchise, including Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda for the NES and most recently Game Builder Garage, Ring Fit Adventure and 1-2-Switch.
