Nintendo will close the eShop for Wii U and 3DS
Nintendo will close its eShop digital store for the Wii U and 3DS handheld consoles. Access will be closed at the end of March 2023. After that, users will not be able to purchase games, download new content and demos. Players will only be able to download previously purchased games and add-ons.
In addition to the closure, as of August 29, 2022, the ability to top up your Nintendo eShop account balance on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS devices via the Nintendo eShop Card will be disabled. However, download codes can be used until the end of March 2023.
Users who have combined their funds associated with their Nintendo Network code (used in Nintendo eShop for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS) with funds associated with their Nintendo account (used in Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch) will be able to use the combined funds to purchase content on either of those consoles and systems until the end of March 2023. After that date, the funds can only be used to purchase content on Nintendo Switch.
