Researchers from the University of York are going to give a new life lease to old LCD TVs in the form of medical implants.

According to the York Green Chemistry Centre researchers, LCD TVs have such chemicals that can be very useful if used in advanced biomedicine.

PVA or Polyvinyl-alcohol is the basic element that is used in liquid crystal display technology. When these OLD LCD screens are thrown away, most of the time they get buried or incinerated in different landfill sites.

The scientists have formed a new method in which the recovered material is heated in a microwave or in water and then it is washed in ethanol to produce expanded PVA.
